Women’s Professional Soccer had its 2011 draft on January 14th, in preparation for the league’s upcoming third season. Unlike the past two years, in which the draft saw as many as 70 players picked, this year there were only 4 rounds, and just 24 names were called.

The Big Show, and Those Left Behind

So, there’s been much talk, and gnashing of teeth, regarding the calling up of Alex Morgan for USWNT in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying. And despite the feeling that we’re hashing the same argument over and over, I apparently still have too much to say to fit in a snappy tweet or two.
The issue, in summary: Alex Morgan is a senior forward for the Cal Bears, who are in the midst of Pac-10 conference play, trying to qualify for the NCAA championship. Meanwhile, the US women’s national team is in the midst of qualifying for the 2011 women’s world cup, and Morgan has been called up for that.
Drama ensues!
